easyJet welcomes the New Year with massive expansion

easyJet, Europe's leading low-fares airline, today announced the addition of 14 new routes across its European network and that the airline will be converting three of its bases to solely Airbus operations.

This spring, easyJet will take delivery of nine brand new Airbus A319s, taking the total number of aircraft in its fleet to 116 by the summer. This new capacity will be used to introduce new routes from a variety of bases across Europe:

The new routes reflect the airline's commitment to expand from its bases by using the 'join the dots' approach, connecting popular currently-served cities to ensure passengers have easy access to the most attractive destinations. In particular, the airline recognises the potential for growth in the North West of England and Italy in 2006.

The addition of the new routes will increase the total number operated to 247, with more new routes planned for later in the year. Seats will be on sale at www.easyJet.com by Friday 6 January.

easyJet also announced it is converting three of its UK regional bases - Edinburgh, Glasgow and Liverpool - to solely Airbus operations, replacing the current fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft with brand new Airbus 319s this summer. This move reflects easyJet’s commitment to future investment and expansion.

Andrew Harrison, easyJet Chief Executive said:

“Some 35 million Europeans will take advantage of easyJet’s unique combination of the lowest fares to the best-located airports this year; in fact, no other airline saves their passengers time and money on the same scale as easyJet.

“14 new routes for the coming summer season is just the beginning of our plans for expansion during 2006, which will be an exciting year for easyJet – look out for announcements about more new routes to more destinations over the coming months.”
