Other trails include coastal and castle trails and the Victorian Heritage Trail that takes you to Balmoral, summer residence of the Queen.
For those planning an energetic break, you can go trout or salmon fishing on the rivers Don and Dee, pony trekking, hill walking or golfing on one of the excellent golf courses. Being in the rain-shadow of the mountains the climate is much drier than that of the west coast, so a spot of sunbathing on Aberdeen's golden sandy beach is a possibility in the summer months.
