If Germany is the country of beer, then Münich is the epicentre of this, and the Bavarian capital has a beer culture unlike anywhere else.

There are six gigantic breweries pumping out the amber nectar, beer halls aplenty and, of course, Oktoberfest, doling out ‘Mass’ (that is, one litre) tankards of beer to literally millions of people every year. And the best part is that Germany’s ‘purity law’ means it’s all of the highest quality. Outside the beer though, there’s plenty to enjoy, from Lederhosen to fairy-light strewn gardens. A city of culture as much as beer, head to the art quarter – the Kunstareal – to see as much Modernism as you will Neoclassical. There’s even a museum for BMW cars.
