Photogenic Santorini is the most popular Greek island for a reason – the big one being that it’s gasp-inducingly beautiful.

Set in the vivid blue sea surround all of the Cyclades, its ancient earthquake-formed cliffs plunge into a sea-flooded caldera. Add a tangled confection of white houses dotted with pops of cobalt tumbling down the mountain sides and you have Santorini. Then the sunset happens and it gets even better. Oia reputably has one of the best sunsets in the world (and is also the most crowded spot on the island), but from anywhere you look the sight of the buildings turning orange and red as the sun drops into the ocean is magical.
