Ischia Holidays

Italy's incredible volcanic island

This picturesque Italian island in the Bay of Naples is a hidden gem, boasting natural beauty, thermal springs, and charming villages. Often overshadowed by its more famous neighbour, Capri, the island of Ischia offers a more laid-back and authentic Italian experience, making it an ideal destination if you’re craving some relaxation with a side order of adventure.

The island is renowned for its therapeutic thermal waters, with numerous spas and thermal parks such as Poseidon Gardens and Negombo providing rejuvenating experiences. These thermal springs have been celebrated since ancient Roman times for their healing properties, and they continue to attract visitors from around the world.

Ischia’s diverse landscape includes lush gardens, sandy beaches, and scenic hiking trails. The peak of Mount Epomeo, the island’s highest point, offers panoramic views and is a favourite among hikers. The coastal areas boast beautiful beaches like Maronti and Citara, perfect for sunbathing and swimming in the sparkling sea.

The island is dotted with charming towns and villages, each with its own unique character. Ischia Porto is the main hub with lively bars and restaurants, while Ischia Ponte is home to the historic Aragonese Castle, a must-visit landmark. The quaint village of Sant’Angelo, with its pedestrian-only streets and picturesque harbour, is perfect for a peaceful stroll.

Being an Italian island, just off the Amalfi Coast, you can expect good food. Culinary delights are abundant, with fresh seafood and local specialties such as rabbit stew (coniglio all’ischitana) and Ischian wines to savour. Whether you’re soaking in the thermal waters, exploring historic sites, or simply enjoying the island’s natural beauty, Ischia offers a unique Italian escape.

Your Ischia questions, answered

May and September are the best times of year to visit Ischia because there are fewer tourists and the weather is pleasant.
Although there are parts of the island that are walkable, Ischia is far too large to be considered walkable on the whole. The main walking street is Corso Vittoria Colonna.
You can visit on a day trip from Naples, which will give you time to see the sights. If you want to settle into island life, four to seven days is a better length for your trip.
